Iceland, land of fire and ice...

First settled in the 9th century AD, Iceland was the last habitable place on earth to be settled. Originally a viking community, the people have survived centuries of natural disasters, harsh climate and foreign rule. The 20th century saw this tiny nation emerge as one of the most advanced nations on earth. Financially and technologically Iceland has few rivals in the world. Still, what really strikes the visitor is the country's amazing beauty. If you're into ecotourism, this is the place to go.
